Why Your Cat’s Breath Smells Like Poop
Gastrointestinal issues tend to be the most common cause of cats that have a poop-like breath. Bowel obstruction, for example, may cause your cat to vomit continuously and this can eventually make the cat’s breath smell like poop. Bowel obstruction is considered a serious problem so you should take your cat to the vet immediately if you suspect your cat ate something he shouldn’t have.
A cat’s breath could also smell like poop due to coprophagia. You might not be seeing as many poops in the litter box because your cat is starting to eat his own poop. Cats can develop coprophagia due to a number of medical reasons such as a deficiency in vitamins or minerals, or the presence of parasites in the cat’s body.
Aside from the above, infections and inflammations are also considered potential causes for cats that develop a poop-like breath smell. This could include conditions like pharyngitis or tonsillitis. The poop-like smell of a cat’s breath could be considered a sign of something bad that’s going on in the cat’s body so we would always suggest calling the vet should such a situation arise for your cat. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
