Can Cats Drink Coconut Water Safely?

Coconut Water

We would suggest not giving your cat any coconut-based products like coconut water. While a small amount of coconut water is unlikely to make your cat sick, a large amount may cause an undesirable reaction such as diarrhea and stomach upsets. Coconut water avoids the problem that coconut milk has when it comes to high fat and oil content but it’s a beverage product that we would still recommend proceeding with caution.

Another concern that cat owners should be aware of when it comes to coconut water is the relatively high potassium content. 100 grams of coconut water can contain up to 250 mg of potassium. Cats that have too much potassium in their body can suffer from a condition called hyperkalemia so it’s important that you are able to control the amount of potassium intake in a cat’s diet.
