Cheap ways to dispose of cat litter without using plastic bags

There are many creative and cheap ways to throw away cat litter without using plastic bags. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Use compostable bags

Compostable waste bags are a great solution if you are looking for alternatives to plastic bags because you are conscious about the impact that plastic has on the environment. For less than $20, you can get as many as twenty poop bags to dispose the cat litter in. Don’t always go for the cheapest compostable waste bags as they may not be durable and leakproof.

Ask your neighbors and friends

Your neighbors may happen to be hoarding plenty of plastic bags with no plans to use them in the immediate term. Don’t be afraid to ask around if you have run out of plastic bags to discard the cat litter waste. Alternatively, think of other “bags” that are durable enough to hold the used cat litter. You could, for example, use paper bags or the plastic wrappings used for household items like toilet paper and diapers.

Storage containers with newspaper lining

Some cat owners have had success disposing the cat litter by dumping it in a small to medium-sized container. You can put some newspaper lining along the side to prevent any leakage from damaging the inside of the container. You can then empty the container into the outdoor trash bag when it’s close to trash collection day.

Get the little genie

Trash disposal systems like the Little Genie are a great way to dispose of cat litter without using many plastic bags. You just scoop the soiled cat litter then place it into the pail, which will be able to hold the litter for up to two weeks without having the odor spread all over your home.
