Is it Safe for Cats to Eat Peanut Butter?

No, cats should not eat peanut butter. For dogs, a bit of peanut butter is okay as long as it doesn’t contain ingredients like xylitol. For cats, it’s a different story. We don’t recommend feeding your feline pal any form of peanut butter. There are a number of reasons for this.

First, there is a danger of a cat choking from licking too much peanut butter. Some of the peanut butter may get stuck in the cat’s throat and mouth due to its thick consistency.

Second, some peanut butter products contain a lot of fat. Cats that eat too much peanut butter in one sitting are at risk of developing health conditions like gastrointestinal upsets. Some cats may also have allergies to peanuts. Common allergic reactions may include symptoms like itchy skin. In more serious cases, it may result in anaphylaxis.
