Is it Safe for Cats to Eat Tomato Soup?

We wouldn’t risk feeding your cat tomato soup. Certain parts of the tomato, such as the leaves, are considered toxic to cats and there’s no way of knowing whether those parts made it into the soup, especially if you didn’t make it yourself.

Ready-made tomato soup sold at stores and restaurants may also contain ingredients that are either toxic or bad for a cat’s health when there’s too much of it. For example, Heinz tomato soup contains milk and a decent amount of sodium, both of which won’t be handled well by a cat’s digestive system.

The only occasion when it might be safe to feed your cat tomato soup would be when you are serving soup that you made yourself from scratch (using actual tomatoes). This way, you are able to guarantee that you aren’t including ingredients that are harmful for cats, including milk, onion, and garlic. Even then, you should only serve a tiny amount of tomato soup to your cat since it isn’t something that is part of your cat’s regular diet.
