Don’t Let Your Dog Eat Bread and Butter
Plain bread and butter are not considered fatal to dogs but it can definitely introduce a variety of health problems you wouldn’t want your pooch to experience.
There are a lot of safety hazards we need to consider with bread. Plain bread that doesn’t contain any ingredients that are toxic to dogs should be fine if they are only given in small pieces but there also isn’t really a good reason to let a dog eat bread. It could be viewed as a nutrient-deficient calorie filler.
Butter would also be problematic for a dog’s stomach. For starters, many dogs are lactose intolerant so aren’t able to easily handle dairy products like butter. It also consists of a lot of fat so you put your dog at risk of becoming overweight if they are allowed to eat butter on a regular basis.
The next time you slather some butter on bread, please be sure to keep it away from your dog’s reach. If your dog accidentally eats some bread and butter then observe him carefully for the next couple of hours. The dog may experience a mild stomach upset. Anything more serious should require a visit to the vet. Want to know what else dogs should and shouldn’t eat? View our human foods database to learn more.
