Chicken liver makes a great healthy treat for dogs as long as it’s prepared properly and given in moderation. Livers are considered one of the most nutrient-dense organ meats. They are packed with nutrients like vitamin A, essential fatty acids, protein, and more.

There are a couple of ways you can prepare chicken liver. One popular method is to dehydrate the chicken liver and turn it into a jerky. If you don’t have a dehydrator machine at home then an alternative method would be to cook the chicken liver in an oven in the lowest temperature setting available. Chicken liver jerky can last a while so you can prepare a bunch in one go.

Another way to prepare chicken liver for your dog is by chopping up the liver into small pieces and cooking it lightly. Serve the plainly-cooked chicken liver on its own or mix it in with your dog’s regular meal. It’s important to only serve a small amount to prevent your dog from getting affected by conditions like vitamin A toxicity.

Some dog owners may opt to give their dog raw chicken liver. This is fine as long as you are confident that the organ meat isn’t contaminated and has been prepared safely. Again, make sure the chicken liver doesn’t account for more than 5% of the dog’s daily intake.
