Can Dogs Eat Cottage Cheese? When it is or isn’t an Emergency

In general, dog owners should avoid feeding their dog cheese due to the fat and lactose content but it might be okay to let them eat a tiny amount of cottage cheese. A small amount could be beneficial for dogs due to cottage cheese containing a large amount of protein and calcium.

Cottage cheese is considered to be on the lower-end of the lactose content spectrum so dogs are less likely to have a reaction against it compared to other types of cheese and dairy products. You may, however, want to stop your dog from eating it if your pooch is highly sensitive to lactose.

Given its relatively bland flavor, you might find it best to mix a small amount of cottage cheese with the dog’s regular food. Most dogs, however, are unlikely to complain if you serve the cheese on its own. Please note that you should only let your dog eat plain cottage cheese. Don’t let them eat anything that’s flavored as there is always a risk of such products containing ingredients that are actually harmful to pets.
