Croutons may seem harmless to dogs because it’s just re-baked bread but it actually has the potential to be much harmful than one would think. This largely depends on the ingredients.

A lot of store-bought croutons may contain seasonings like garlic salt and onion powder, both of which can be toxic to dogs. One or two croutons is unlikely to be fatal but it may still make your dog slightly sick, especially if they are a small breed.

Plain croutons without any additives or seasonings are likely to be fine for dogs but we would suggest alternative snacks because there are very little nutrients for a dog to gain from eating croutons. According to the USDA, 100 grams of croutons could contain up to 7 grams of fat and 29 grams of sodium! Some dogs may end up with a stomach upset if they eat too many croutons.
