Why Dogs Shouldn’t Eat Custards
Whether it’s intentional or accidental, it’s really important to not let your dog get a bite of the custard. It’s a culinary preparation that comes in few types. Most custards will consist of ingredients like sweetened milk, egg yolk, and cream.
The main reason why dogs shouldn’t be allowed to eat custard is due to the high lactose content. Most dogs are lactose intolerance so having foods like custard will cause issues within their digestive system. The level of severity will range from mild to severe. It will ultimately depend on factors like the amount of custard the dog ate as well as the size and age of the dog.
In addition to the lactose content, custards also high in saturated fats and sugar, both of which can cause further problems to the dog’s stomach. It wouldn’t be a surprise if your dog suffers from conditions like stomach upsets and diarrhea after they eat a decent amount of custard.
Custards, in most cases, won’t be fatal to dogs but a trip to the vet might be necessary if you believe your dog ate way too much.
