Dog owners need to be careful whenever they introduce a new type of bone to their dog. Duck bones, for example, should only be given to dogs while they are under supervision. Here are the reasons why.

First, there is always a risk of the duck bones getting broken into smaller pieces as the dog gnaws at it. The bone pieces could then get lodged in the dog’s mouth, throat, or intestinal tract. This significantly increases the risk of issues like laceration.

The risk becomes even higher with cooked duck bones. You should never give your dog cooked duck bones as they can be very brittle and easy to chew apart.

For larger dogs, certain parts of the duck bone could be small enough for them to swallow immediately. These bones can then become obstructions in the dog’s throat or intestinal tract.
