Can Dogs Eat Olive Oil? When it is or isn’t an Emergency
Yes, it’s safe for dogs to eat olive oil in moderation. Supplementing the dog food with high-quality olive can benefit the dog in a number of ways. Olive oil, for example, contains nutrients like vitamin E, which is great for helping a dog maintain a healthy coat. Olive oil also contains other antioxidants that may protect the dog’s body cells from radical damage.
Don’t just give any olive oil though. For dogs, we recommend supplementing their food with extra virgin olive oil, which also happens to be an excellent source of monounsaturated fats, omega-3, and omega-6 fatty acids. The recommended amount by vets is one teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil per 20 pounds of a dog’s body weight. In addition to olive oil, you can find out what other human foods are safe for dogs to eat in moderation.
