Can Dogs Eat Pinto Beans? When it is or isn’t an Emergency

Pinto beans are safe for dogs to eat in moderation. They are a great source of plant-based proteins for dogs. 100 grams of pinto beans may contain up to 21 grams of protein and other important nutrients like vitamin B-6 and iron.

Despite the many health benefits of pinto beans, it’s important to only feed a limited amount. Pinto beans can make dogs gassy and eating too many beans in one sitting may cause health conditions like bloat. You also wouldn’t want a dog that farts all day long would you?

Pinto beans should also not be served raw, nor should you be letting your dog eat canned pinto beans. Canned beans may contain additives that aren’t healthy to dogs. When you cook the pinto beans, make sure you don’t add any seasonings. Plainly-cooked pinto beans are just fine for dogs.
