Dogs Can Eat Pumpkin Puree in Moderation

Pumpkin puree is okay for dogs to eat in moderation. It is certainly good for dogs that are suffering from digestive issues like diarrhea and constipation given the large amount of fiber that pumpkin contains. It’s best, however, to make the pumpkin puree yourself rather than relying on store-bought products.

Pumpkin puree found in stores may contain additives or additional ingredients that are harmful to dogs. Making pumpkin puree at home is fairly simple. You just need to do cut the pumpkin in half, extract the seeds, roast the pumpkin for about an hour, then blend the softened pumpkin flesh into a food processor.

Pumpkin puree may have its health benefits but do make sure that it is only given to dogs in moderation. Ideally, treats and foods like pumpkin puree shouldn’t account for more than 10% of a dog’s daily calorie intake.
