Can Dogs Eat Sour Cream? When it is or isn’t an Emergency
No, we would suggest keeping your dog away from sour cream. The main reason being that many dogs are lactose intolerant so having dairy products like sour cream could lead to gastrointestinal problems. Some dogs that eat sour cream may suffer from symptoms like diarrhea and bloating.
Sour cream isn’t considered toxic for dogs but it’s best to not feed them this dairy product for the reason stated above. Sour cream might be rich in nutrients like calcium and vitamin A but there are alternative (and much safer) ways for dogs to be supplemented with such nutrients.
You need to also keep in mind that sour cream is quite heavy in fat and cholesterol so this can worsen the gastrointestinal problems and may also contribute to weight gain issues if the dog is fed sour cream on a regular basis.
