Can Dogs Eat Tangerines? When it is or isn’t an Emergency
Tangerines aren’t considered toxic to dogs but that doesn’t mean you should be letting them eat these citrus fruits freely. There are certain health risks dog owners need to be aware of when it comes to eating tangerines.
First you need to consider the fact that these citrus fruits are high in natural sugar. A small tangerine for example may contain up to 11 grams of sugar for example. A dog’s stomach might not handle the sugar overload too well if they are allowed to eat too many tangerines. It may lead to an upset stomach so it’s important to limit the amount your dog eats.
Aside from sugar, ther is also the risk of the citrus acid. Some pet experts believe the acid can cause irritations in the dog’s digestive tract. A small amount of tangerine may be okay but anything more may cause problems. If you plan on letting your dog eat pieces of these citrus fruits then please make sure to discard the peels first.
