Can Dogs Eat Abalone? When it is or isn’t an Emergency
We wouldn’t let your dog eat abalone because of the many risks involved. First off, you should never let your dog eat raw abalone as they may potentially contain toxins and bacteria that make your dog sick. For a lot of us, it might be difficult to tell whether the abalone is fresh or not. The less fresh the abalone, the higher the risk of a sickness developing for those that eat the abalone meat.
A tiny amount of plainly-cooked abalone might be fine for dogs but there isn’t really any good reason to feed your dog abalone in the first place. There’s also the risk of seafood allergies you also need to consider before you let your dog try something for the first time.
If you noticed that your dog has rummaged through the remains of discarded abalone then a trip to the vet might be necessary.
