Jack Russell Terriers, in general, are viewed as energetic and playful dog breeds so it can be quite concerning for dog owners if they suddenly see their furry pal sleeping all day long. Here are the most common reasons why.

Your Dog is Sick

A sudden change in behavior is usually an indication that something might be wrong with your Jack Russell. If your dog is suddenly dozing off quite a bit then it might be an important time to check with the vet. Long sleep could be due to a number of health conditions including hypothyroidism or metabolic diseases that may result in a decrease in energy.

Puppies and Senior Dogs Sleep More

It’s normal for Jack Russell puppies and senior dogs to sleep more than adult dogs. Puppies, for example, require a bit 18 to 20 hours of sleep per day so it’s not an immediate concern if your Jack Russell is still really young. That said, if it’s a sudden change in sleeping behavior then there is most likely something else at play.

Stress or Change in Environment

Your Jack Russell’s sleeping pattern could suddenly change due to a stressful event or a change in environment. Your dog, for example, might be sleeping off the stress from being moved to a new home or from being taken to an unfamiliar environment. In such cases, you will need to give the dog some time to adjust. Make sure to give your dog plenty of treats, toys, and praises in order to give him a better sense of security and comfort.
