Can Dogs with Diarrhea and an Upset Stomach Eat Scrambled Eggs?
Dogs that are suffering from diarrhea may require a temporary change in diet in order to recover quickly. The general recommendation is to feed your dog a bland diet consisting of food that’s easy for them to digest.
Some of the more popular human food options that are fed to dogs with diarrhea include boiled chicken and rice, canned or pureed pumpkin (plain), and mashed boiled potatoes. Plain scrambled eggs may also be an option although there are certain safety precautions dog owners need to be aware of.
First, some dogs may not have a good reaction if this is the first time they will be eating scrambled eggs. When your dog is trying to recover from diarrhea or other digestion issues, we would avoid introducing any food that’s completely alien to them. There might also be the risk of the dog being allergic to eggs.
Second, the scrambled egg should not be cooked in oil, nor should it contain any additional ingredients like butter. The addition of cooking oil may make the dog’s diarrhea worse. Scrambled eggs could be good for dogs with diarrhea because it may help slow down the bowel movements.
If you are ever in doubt or if your dog is showing serious symptoms, please call the vet for the appropriate advice.
