Can Yorkies Eat Blueberries? When it is or isn’t an Emergency

Yes, Yorkshire Terriers (or Yorkies) can enjoy blueberries as an occasional treat. Just make sure you don’t go overboard with the blueberries. Yorkies that eat too many blueberries at once can be at risk of suffering from stomach upsets and other related digestive systems.

Fresh blueberries make great natural treats for Yorkshire Terriers because they are packed with nutrients and relatively low in calories. You just need to make sure that natural treats like blueberries don’t account for more than 10% of a Yorkie’s daily calorie intake.

Based on USDA data, blueberries have a tendency to make it into the dirty dozen list, meaning there’s a risk of store-bought blueberries being contaminated with pesticide residue. To reduce the possible effects that the pesticide residue can have on your Yorkie, we would suggest soaking the blueberries in baking soda solution first before you let your dog enjoy them.
